Drums :
Randy Gruber Bluescore was a 4-piece rock and roll group out of Chico, CA. Randy, Dustin, Michael and Brian all hail from Visalia, CA originally. These 4 have known each other for years and been part of numerous musical projects together. During the summer of 1994, in Visalia, CA, Brian, James Rudd, Steve Lujan and Matt Johnson opened the door of the future when Fuszbucket was born. After Fuszbucket disbanded, the Hand Me Downs came together and were fronted by Brian in 1996, featuring James on drums and Dustin’s first starring role fingering the low-end. Sputnik, a fast and furious punk band, also arose in ‘96. Sputnik consisted of Randy on guitar and Brian on drums (huh?), along with Michael abusing the mic and his brother Jim on bass. The biggest splash made by these rockers occurred in early 1997 when the band Interference burst on the scene. Interference showed the same line-up as Bluescore, with the exception of drummer Dalton Garcia. With their raw sound, Interference grew a solid following before quickly reaching what seemed to be the limits of the small minded Central California town. This is an all too familiar story from a city that has produced some truly amazing music during the 90s (Happy Death Men, Butterglory, Plaid Retina, Ranch 51, God on Friday, and the list goes on), but can’t keep it around. Other projects that claim Bluescore members include; Tripwire, Prior to Launch, God on Friday, Callous Neglect and Red Light Only. In the summer of ’98, Brian and Michael moved to Chico for school and new musical opportunity. Randy already lived in Chico by this time. He was working in the family business and had traded his guitar in for the sticks, which was a great move. Dustin moved up to join them in May of 2000. After a short-lived attempt to revive Interference, Randy was called upon in September of 2000 to make Bluescore complete. After 2 tours, shows with the likes of Chokebore, Q and Not U, Ted Leo and Victory at Sea, an EP and a collection of demos, Bluescore called it quits in November of 2002.
